Gran Canaria Beaches

This is a 4 kilometer long, white, sandy beach, which is cleaned on a daily basis. It starts at the lighthouse near El Oasis and runs east towards Playa del Ingles along the edge of a great expanse of sand dunes - a protected nature reserve. The nudist zone is just to the south of the lighthouse. Sunbeds, deck-chairs, pedaloes and surfboards can be hired.

The beach of San Agustin, from where you can walk to Playa del Ingles, is divided into several different bays and has a number of watersports facilities. The beach is largely family oriented and much quieter than its neighbour.

This is the only acceptable sandy beach in the northwest of the island; elsewhere, cliffs dominate the coast. The sand is dark and the beach, which is used mostly by local people, is only about 100 meters long. However, decking has recently been erected around the new jetty, providing a pleasant sunbathing area.

The artificial, fine sandy beach in this family oriented, little bay is only 400 meters long, so sunbeds are very close to each other. Rocks protect swimmers from the high breakers. There are plenty of facilities of all kinds.

This is the Las Palmas city beach, a 3 kilometer stretch of white sand. A wide promenade runs the length of the beach, lined with hotels and restaurants. A natural reef, La Barra, a few hundred metres out, turns this stretch of coast into a natural lagoon, safe for children and non swimmers. At the southern end the constant on-shore winds make ideal conditions for surfers.
