In the south, this beach is near the tourist resort of El Medano. It is the longest beach with beautiful yellow sands that are flat, which makes it suitable for families with small children. As it is flat there is no wind break, and so the wind can overturn beach umbrellas and blow the fine sand around – not ideal for sun worshipers but makes ideal surfing conditions. In low season this beach is quiet but in high season does get very busy.
Playa de Los Cristianos
A long promenade connects different sections of this beach, it is 400 meters long and100 meters wide in parts. This tourist resort has golden sand and crystalline water with plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire.
Playa de Las Americas
To the north of Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Americas has artificially created beaches and provides many facilities, making it ideal for families with small children.
Playa De La Arena
A short distance from Puerto de Santiago on the southwest coast you will find this 250 meter beach, renound for its sub tropical green vegetation and fine black sand. The beach is well cared for, and has very high standards of cleanliness.
Playa De San Marcos
This beach is quiet during mid-week and is close to Icod – to the north of the island. It has fine black sand and is surrounded by fissured walls of rock.
Puerto De La Cruz
Puerto De La Cruz has several beaches. Designed by Cesar Manrique, one of the most stunning is Playa Jardin which you will find to the west of the city in Punta Brava. It has black sand with palms and flowering plants lining the beach. The sea is safe to swim in as it has breakwaters.
In the centre of Puerto De La Cruz you will find another of Cesar Manrique’s creations- The Lido San Telmo. This has no beach, but provides all necessary facilities around beautifully landscaped areas and swimming pools.
Playa De Marianez
At 20 meters wide this beach has been left very much in its natural state with coarse black sands. A little wooden footbridge connects the beach with volcanic rocks, you will get a unique view of the north coast from here.
