Tenerife Airports
 

Tenerife has two airports, the main international is Aeropuerto de Tenerife (Reina Sofia) which is located in the South of the Island, 60km from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Aeropuerto del Norte Los Rodeos a smaller airport mainly used for domestic flights, located in the Northwest of Santa Cruz.

The Sur Reina Sofia Aiport was inaugurated by Queen Sofia on 6 November 1978, by the end of its first year there was 1 million passengers that had passed through its doors. In 2003 it handled, 8,850,613 passengers, 62,493 flight operations and 8,775 tons of cargo. As a result the airport boasts operations by more than 150 airlines.

Sur Reina Sofia Airport's Arrivals lounge is lovely and spacious, when you land at the airport you will either find yourself going through a tunnel that is directly connected to the terminal or being shuttled from the plane on a bus to the terminal. Its has the capacity of comfortably holds 2,700 passengers in rush hour, based on the ground floor. It has seven carousels for your luggage to come through and in true Spanish form it normally takes a while.

Departures in Sur Reina Sofia Airport are on the ground floor of the passenger building. Reaching it is easy, it is direct from the taxi rank, bus stop or the various airport car parks. The departures lobby has an area of 10,800 square metres and can comfortably handle the three thousand passengers that the airport can get in the rush hour of peak season. There are 87 check-in desks for passenger use.

In the departure area you will find the airport's extensive shopping area.

The airport has they are five food facilities and restaurants in total, other shops include Travel, accessories, a pharmacy, toys, fashion, jewellery, souvenirs, wine & spirits and tobacco in your duty free!! The bars and restaurants include the La Naranja which is a a juice bar, Ibense Bornay an ice cream parlour, Dorada a bar and Bill Bentley a bar also, all are open 24 hours a day for your convenience.

Sur Reina Sofia Airport is easily accessible for disabled people, The airport whole terminal have been equipped to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. There are also a lot of disabled car parking spaces close to the terminal.  Throughout the airport terminal  building there are special telephones, toilets, flight information and boarding modules. Enabling you to be able to move through the airport with ease making your journey that bit easier.  Please contact the airline if you wish to board using a wheelchair.

There are six car hire companies in total at the Airport, if you are wanting to hire a car please take a look at the car hire link.Ten different tour operators are based here at the airport, and twelve travel agents that will be able to flight if something arises that means you have to go home early or maybe sty in Tenerife longer they will be able to help.

There is one bank in the terminal, it is open only Monday to Friday 8am till 2pm.There is one VIP lounge at the airport, and two meeting rooms available for hire for meetings, receptions and press conferences.

Bus Information:
Bus services operate from Tenerife Sur Airport to Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas, with onward connections throughout the island.

Aeropuerto del Norte Los Rodeos
Los Rodeos Airport is the oldest airport, out of the two and until Sur Reina Sofia Airport was built it was the main one. Then that fatal disaster plane crash happened there in 1977 where two 747's collided. After that until 2003 the airport was used domestically to fly to other Islands in the Archipelago in the Canaries it only has one terminal.

It is located only 9km from the main capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The airport has plenty of facilities including bars, cafe's, fast food joints and plenty of shopping facilities.There is no business centre at the airport so it is best to contact the airports information desk for advice.

At Los Rodeos Airport there are dedicated check-in facilities for people with disabilities, disabled toilets and good wheelchair access throughout the Airport terminal. For further assistance boarding, passenger's are advised to contact the airline in advance.

Taxis are located just outside the front of the main terminal of Los Rodeos Airport, and will take you to your destination on the island. There are also several buses that connect with the airport and they will take you to the majority of the main resorts, passing through smaller ones on the way.
