About Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is certainly one of the last European paradise isles. A continent in miniature it offers lush forests, exotic fauna and flora, sahara like dunes, mountains, volcanic craters, sometimes snow on the highest peaks, the most dynamic capital city in the Canaries, incredibly beautiful coastlines and spectacular beaches.

Gran Canaria was originally named Tamarn (meaning "land of the brave"). The variation in climate and temperature is very high, from green areas and forests in the North-West to the arid, dry and even desert like conditions down south.

The climate of Gran Canaria is warm, sunny and sub-tropical and remains almost constant the whole year round. This because of the constant North-East Passaat winds (Calisio) and the Canarian stream which is a part of the Gulf stream. The temperatures in the South of Gran Canaria will not come below 20°c during the day in the winter, and can reach easily 35°c in the summer.

Gran Canaria is a very popular destination for those who like spending a holiday or even a complete winter in the sun. For the younger people Playa del Ingles is the place for bars, discotheques, restaurants and sporting activities on offer. The older people and families are choosing mostly the more quiet places like Maspalomas, Sonnenland, Puerto Rico and the picturesque village Puerto de Mogan.
